Barton Vineyards has become one of the Overberg Crane Group’s most loyal supporters. For 10 years, Barton has contributed a percentage of its wine sales to the OCG, raising around R50,000 in the process.
The funds raised helps the OCG to monitor and conserve the Blue Crane, South Africa’s national bird, and other birds threatened in the Overberg. Barton Vineyards also promotes the OCG on its label, which features a Blue Crane.
The relationship first developed when Barton Vineyards, based close to Hermanus, requested support from the OCG in 2006 to help them conserve their nesting cranes. At the time, the OCG provided advice on protecting the cranes in the area.
In 2013, Barton Vineyards was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for its support.
According to OCG Chair, Mick D’Alton, “We are most grateful to Barton Vineyards for these generous donations, which have had a considerable effect on our ability to implement our mandate.”
